Mission Statement:

The Friends of Wasilla Parks and Recreation is a Non-Profit 501(C)(3) organization whose mission is to support and enhance Wasilla’s parks, bike paths, and multi use trails by youth involvement.

We are a group of people who want to ensure our parks continue to allow our youth to use them.

Wonderland Skate Park Renovation:

Why do we need this?

The mat-su borough youth has been growing very quickly. We have seen the rate of children using the skate park greatly grow over the last couple years. The skate park is now being used by people of all age categories and family situations. With the larger amount of people using the skate park, overlap has become a very common issue. With a larger area, we could support the larger amount of people using this park.

With the new addition, it would spark the excitement that our park one had. Many people used to come from surrounding areas to ride our park, but to the lack of updates or changes, now these communities have smaller skate parks that are taking from our draw factor. The update would also draw people who have quit riding our park due to the lack of changes over 20 years.

When do we want it to happen?

We are looking to raise all the money needed to update the skate park over the winter of 2018-2019. We would love to start the work next spring time. Summer of 2019 is when we are hoping to have the renovations all finished.
